Madhavi Parekh

Madhvi Parekh was born in 1942 in Sanjaya, Gujrat. Madhvi is a self trained artist, she began painting in 1964. Her works revolves around childhood memory, women’s crafts, folk art and Indian myths. Her style is contemporary and she was influenced by Paul Klee. Madhvi’s use of oil and acrylic on canvas and watercolour on paper is -a decisive shift from the traditional materials and surface of folk painters. Over the years, she has stimulated and broadened her artistic imagination and the initial naïve charm of her paintings has matured and become loaded with her statements on the status of women, the girl child, and encounters between rural and urban India. Her works are inspired by travels to places like Mauritius and Bhutan. Curtains and arches have also begun to crop up in her works, a sign of the inclusion of the everyday to her world of fantasy. She has participated in several shows and workshops and her work has been exhibited in different parts of the country and overseas.

She lives and works in New Delhi.
